History
1974
Mike Stacy Landscaping was started by Mike Stacy; born on April 13, 1948, in January 1974 after high school and his return from Vietnam with the U.S. Marines. Mike and his wife, Judy, of Dennisport were parents of 4 children ages 1-10, enjoying their young family, and working hard to grow their business. Mike’s involvement with the Cape Cod Landscape Association was instrumental in his company’s success, despite not having any background or formal education in the green industry.
1989
Unfortunately, and totally unexpectedly, Mike suffered a fatal heart attack on August 26, 1989 at the age of 41, leaving Judy behind with the four kids and a business to operate. Thanks to the selfless help from many members of the CCLA, Judy was able to finish the year. Jack Stacy, Mike’s older brother, worked with Judy to continue operation of the business, and assumed its ownership in January of 1995. During this time Jack had his grandson Matt Ernst working after school and summers for him. Jack noticed Matt’s interest in landscaping and encouraged Matt to pursue a higher education in the green industry.
2004
Matt Ernst Graduated from Cape Cod Technical High School Horticultural Program in 1998. Following graduation Matt attended environmental, and business classes at Cape Cod Community College fulfilling his prerequisites. Matt pursued his associates degree in landscape contracting from Stockbridge School of Agriculture UMass Amherst graduating in 2001. Upon graduating Matt worked with Jack helping manage the business and running day to day operations. After operating Mike Stacy Landscaping for 9 years; Jack mentoring Matt, he sold the business in January of 2004 to his grandson, Matt Ernst.
2023
Jack Stacy was born August 4, 1936 and passed away at the age of 86 on December 17, 2023. Jack proudly served in the Massachusetts National Guard for 25 years. Jack for most of his adult life owned, operated, and closed Stacy’s Automotive Service Station prior to Mike Stacy Landscaping. As a hobby he started Matt’s Organic Gardens. His passion for gardening quickly turned Matt’s Organic Gardens into a business. Following the sale of Mike Stacy Landscaping Jack turned MOG into a thriving business. He operated MOG until 2016 when Matt Ernst and his wife Janet along with others continued yearly operations.
2024
January 2024 Matt Ernst celebrates 20 years of owning and operating Mike Stacy Landscaping; meanwhile owning and assisting in operations of Matt’s Organic Gardens. Matt and his wife are proud parents of two beautiful daughters Olivia and Emily. As a family they enjoy spending time at Matts growing the plants for sale and teaching the same skills and passion for gardening that Mike & Jack had.
