Lawn Aeration

Lawn Aeration Plugs

To help alleviate the compaction in the soil we use the machine seen here.

Lawn Aeration is the removal of small cores of soil from the lawn and reduces soil compaction to promote root growth for healthier grass.

The benefits of core aeration can help make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements. Core aeration allows air, water and fertilizer to better reach the roots zone. It reduces water runoff and puddling along with improved resiliency and cushioning. It also gives an opportunity at that time to over seed with new grass seed. It’s seen being done on our golf courses as the use of golf carts, mowing equipment, and foot traffic increases the soils compaction.

Aeration can be done in the spring or fall but here in the Northeast with our cool season grasses it’s recommended that the fall is the best time. Immediately after aeration, your lawn will be dotted with small plugs (as seen here) pulled from the soil within a week or two, they break apart and disappear into the lawn.
